Ordinaries & Sub-Ordinaries

In addition to the divisions, objects are typically placed on the shield and coloured. The simplest of these are called the (honourable) ordinaries. These are the pale, the fess, the bend & bend sinister, the chevron & chevron reversed, the cross, the saltire, the pall and the pall reversed. The other partitions are regarded as sub-ordinaries.
