Pentomino Puzzles

These puzzles use the 12 pentominoes. The pieces cover an area of 60 unit squares.

Geometric Forms

       Use all the pieces to make a symmetric pattern. Here are examples for the different types of symmetry.

Type of Symmetry

Full Tetrarotary Double Bilateral Reflective Double Diagonal Diagonal Birotary

Iconic Forms

 

       Use all the pieces to make a pattern resembling animals, letters, trees etc.

 

Replications

       Create multiple copies of a pattern.
Pairs Triplets Double Pairs

Portholes

       Make a pattern with as many unit holes as possible. Here are examples for the different types of symmetry.

Covering Cubes

       Cover the surface of a cube using pentominoes. If we allow the pieces to bend around the edges, then cubes with non-integer edges can be covered using copies of a single piece.
