Click thumbnails for larger images

Materials & Tools

M&S gin cork,

Old marker pen or felt tip

Hacksaw / junior hacksaw

Drill & drill bit

Step 1

Cut the old pen roughly in half with the fine saw.

Step 2

Drill a hole in the cork the same width as the pen barrel.

Step 3

Insert the pen into the cork. It should be a snug fit, but if it is loose you can add a little adhesive to hold it firm.

Example 1

The circular top makes a perfect compost press for small pots - 4cm / 1.5"

Example 2

Flip it over, and the pen makes a hole for seed sowing.
